Starting in 2018, GCSRW shifted from creating liturgical resources for worship to highlighting the real experiences of different women across the connection. In 2018, we uplifted the voices of laywomen in our denomination, including all the laywomen general secretaries. In 2019, we celebrated the diverse and unique ministries of women deacons in The United Methodist Church. To mark the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, we worked with Rev. Dr. Susan Lyn Moudry to create an article about all of the Methodist-affiliated women who worked tirelessly to pass the 19th Amendment. All of these blogs can be found in the archive below.
Women's History Month Blogs
For Women's History Month 2017, the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women have complied liturgies and scripture that uplift women's stories and struggles throughout the Bible. You can access this liturgy and scripture resource here.
Throughout Women's History Month, we will share articles and stories of women who have done tremendous work for women to have access to full and equal participation in the life of the Church. Continue to visit this page throughout Women's History Month to engage with these stories as we uplift and celebrate women throughout the month of March.
As we approach the Lenten season and Women's History Month, we encourage you to take a journey in the shoes of biblical women. Too often, these women's stories are silenced. We hope the liturgy, prayers and sermon ideas will help you embark on a powerful journey with your congregation during this season of Lent, or during Women's History Month, or during any of months to come throughout the year.
A journey in her shoes:
a sermon series for Lent, for Women's History Month, for the entire year
For Women’s History Month 2015, GCSRW is pleased to offer a series of sermon preparation notes and resources written by Rev. Hyemin Na that follow the lectionary texts for March and all arise from the wider theme of hearing God’s word from the experiences of women’s stories and proclaiming the call to live out the gospel.
Don't forget to watch our blog for weekly posts about women leaders!
The General Board of Discipleship also has a number of interesting articles and resources for Women's History Month.
GCSRW offers prayers, calls to worship and liturgies that can be used throughout the month of March as we mark Women's History Month. All the liturgies are Lectionary based, and all elements emphasize inclusive and expansive language.
